Leading a very private life behind her music, her songs are a mysterious opening, a brief window into a poetic mind
In 2015, Martha recorded her unique and evocative vocal and acoustic guitar version of Randy Newman’s 'It Feels Like Home’ for the QANTAS campaign. Her authenticity was noted by Randy Newman himself. Saying that ‘She meant it, and made other people feel it.’
More recently, Martha received an Australian Arts Council and PPCA grant to undertake a major recording project of her original songs with a 17 piece string ensemble. Her debut album Medicine Man is now ready for release but has been postponed until February 2021 due to Covid:19.
In 2019 Martha was asked to be the Artist in Residence at Macquarie University where she was a guest lecturer in songwriting.
Artist
Martha is also a landscape painter and loves to sketch whenever she can. She studied at the National Art School in Sydney, majoring in oil painting, and won the drawing prize in her first year. In 2020, Martha was a finalist in the prestigious Paddington Landscape Art Prize.
Since 2016 Martha has been managing serious immune related health issues. During this time she has performed only occasionally, focusing on writing and recording her debut album.
Martha is also writing and illustrating a children’s story project and will hold her first ‘Works on Paper’ exhibition in February 2021.
